Our Story

European Cycle Routes started with a simple idea: six friends, four days, and a shared love of road cycling. We were tired of routes designed for gravel touring, pro racing, or organised group tours. We wanted something different — trips that blended challenge with holiday, where the coffee stops and long lunches mattered just as much as the road quality.

Since 2023, we've been planning and riding these trips ourselves, typically heading out Wednesday to Saturday in May. It's a window we've found hits the sweet spot of good weather without the chaos of peak summer. Every itinerary on this site was personally researched, planned, and ridden by us — so you and your friends can enjoy a ready-made adventure with total confidence.

But these trips are about more than cycling. Over the years we've come to realise they deliver something genuinely important: four days that tick every box for good mental wellbeing.

Exercise keeps you sharp — physically and mentally. Four days in the saddle covering 120+ km each day floods your system with endorphins, clears your head, and leaves you sleeping better than you have in months. The kind of tired you feel at the end of each stage is entirely earned, and entirely good for you.

Nature does the rest of the heavy lifting. Our routes take you through river valleys, nature parks, and open countryside that you'd simply never see from a motorway or a train window. There's something quietly powerful about spending four consecutive days surrounded by landscapes like the Naturpark Südeifel or the Rhine Valley — it resets you in a way that a city break simply can't.

Friendship is perhaps the ingredient people underestimate most. Long rides create long conversations. Shared suffering on a climb, a well-timed café stop, the relief of reaching the day's endpoint together — these are the moments that strengthen bonds and create stories you'll still be telling years later. We built these routes around six friends, and that's exactly who they're designed for.

Food and drink is where the holiday really comes in. We've never believed in riding through lunch. Our itineraries are planned around excellent stops — proper sit-down meals, local cuisine, cold beers at the end of a long day. Cycling this distance earns you the kind of appetite that makes every meal taste extraordinary.

We've spent over 100 hours planning these trips so you don't have to. All photos were taken by the group on the trips themselves. This isn't a tour company — it's a collection of routes we genuinely love, shared with cyclists who want exactly what we do: adventure, friendship, and four days that leave you feeling more alive than when you started.
